Abstract

This research aims to: 1) identify the levels of academic self-concept and academic self-esteem, 2) analyze the relationship among academic self-concept, academic self-esteem, and academic achievement, and, 3) analyze the mediating effect of academic self-esteem in the relationship between academic self-concept and academic achievement. The research population is 907 students of STKIP Singkawang, and then a sample of 482 students (107 male and 375 female) is taken using a simple random sampling technique. The research instruments are the academic self-concept and the academic self-esteem scales which are obtained from adaptation, and the GPA documentation. The data are analyzed using SPSS with descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression techniques. The results show that the students mostly have a high level of academic self-concept but moderate academic self-esteem level. There is a significant relationship between academic self-concept and self-esteem, but it is not significantly related to academic achievement. Academic self-esteem does not have a mediating effect on the relationship between academic self-concept and academic achievement. Academic self-concept also does not have a direct effect on academic achievement but is a predictor of academic self-esteem.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to comply with the differences in the level of fear of COVID-19 between men and women in Indonesia. This research method is quantitative. The number of participants in this study was 131 people (59 men and 71 women). The criteria in this study were Indonesians who wanted to participate in this research and complete all of the existing questionnaires. This research uses the Fear of COVID-19 Scale instrument with 7 question items that have been translated into Indonesian. Testing the data using the independent t-test to see differences in the level of fear between genders. The results of this study are that women tend to experience more fear due to COVID-19 than men. Women feel traumatized and stressed by the presence of COVID-19. COVID-19 makes women's mood low and feels hyper-arousal.

Abstract

Primary school supports early detection of psychological resources and potential disorders in students, because of the massive incidence and influence for the next life of bullying or peer victimization. It is also important for school to provide early intervention. The aim of the study was to develop a concept of psychological resources to adjust adaptively to bullying experiences, hereinafter referred to as bullying-related adaptive psychological functioning, in upper primary school students in Indonesia. This study carried out a thematic analysis of group interviews toward 60 students and resulted in the concept of bullying-related adaptive psychological functioning which is compiled from the themes of self-awareness, self-management, affiliate action, and positive expectations about oneself in the environment. Despite its limitations, there are 26 items resulting from the development of a psychological self-report using a Likert model. Self-awareness and self-management seem to be more difficult resources for students than the other two aspects.

Abstract

The need to have a capacity to remain hardy despite stress and adversity, particularly in young adult groups, is an essential thing to address. However, to our knowledge, reliable and valid scales to measure the construct is still lacking, particularly in Indonesia. Thus, it encourages the development and validation of the Multidimensional Hardiness Inventory for Young Adults (MHIYA) in Indonesia to measure this capacity. MHIYA was developed through a comprehensive review of literature and a content validity testing process. The data from 326 participants aged 18-40 years old were analyzed using confirmatory factor analyses with a structural equation modelling approach. The final validated MHIYA consists of 18 items loading on three dimensions: commitment, control, and challenge. Cronbach’s α ranged between 0.780 and 0.902 in each dimension indicating high internal consistency reliability for each dimension of the MHIYA. The result from item discrimination analysis indicates that all items in MHIYA could distinguish individuals with high and low levels of hardiness. Therefore, MHIYA is a valid and reliable scale for measuring hardiness among young adults in Indonesia.

Abstract

The wave of COVID-19 pandemic brought in a paradigm shift from the traditional method of physical or face-to-face to online lectures and in some cases e-assessments. This paper focused on the impact of online lectures and e-assessments in the advent of COVID-19. Two research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study. A two-part, self-developed instrument was used in the collection of data. Results showed that majority of the students preferred online classes to face-to-face classroom interaction Furthermore, findings showed that there were no significant effects of location, sex and possession of Android phones on the combined dependent variable of modes of assessment, F(2, 233) = 0.158,p = 0.854; Wilks' Lambda = 0.999; partial η2 = 0.001; F(2, 233) = 0.901,p = 0.408; Wilks' Lambda = 0.99; partial η2 = 0.008 and F(4, 468) = 0.374,p = 0.827; Wilks' Lambda = 0.99; partial η2 = 0.003, respectively. Recommendations were made.
